Protect your liver
Although only effective medications can provide any protection from the damaging action of the hepatitis B virus on the liver, there are a number of other things that people with chronic hepatitis B can do protect their liver from other causes of damage.
- Avoid alcohol as it contributes to liver damage
- Do not smoke as it can be very harmful to the liver
- Do not self-medicate as this could be dangerous. Ensure that all medications taken by you, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, herbal medicines and traditional Chinese medicines are approved by your doctor.
- Vaccinate against hepatitis A, as concurrent hepatitis A infection can further damage the liver
